Weathered A Storm

1st June

Motored from Brac to Solta Island. There we anchored in Stracinska cove. It took as 1 hour to find the spot and 1/2 an hour to anchor. The wind had picked up, and it took us three attempts to anchor. In the end we moved to another spot. First in first serve! We anchored between two rocky cliffs, with 60 meters of chain. There was only give and take of about two meters on either side. Good luck if anyone wanted to get in or out. We swung from side to side as the wind changed direction. Mostly, our stern was facing the cove opening

We were joined by another two yachts, who also had trouble anchoring. After observing their efforts, we gave ourselves a pat on the back. The depth of the entrance to the cove was 36 meters, type of seabed wasn't charted. Possibly a marble floor, which would explain why we had trouble holding, as we were set up with a sand/mud anchor.

Stracinska is a stunning cove, with rocky cliffs. It has a couple of shacks scattered around a small bay, with little fishing boats. It was a touch of tranquil paradise

After dinner we set in for a treat of watching a movie, "Arrested Development". Which was initially hard to get into, but now we're hooked. Live for it! lol But only 10 minutes into it, all we got was a loud buzzing and our power source gave up. That and the fridge. Oh no, warm pivo! And before you start thinking that we'd need a jump start. We had reserved one battery for the engine. Always thinking ahead... good one Brett!

I took watch, taking bearings to make sure we hadn't dragged anchor. I set my phone on alarm to wake myself up every two hours. The first time it went off, Brett jumped out of bed in a panic to investigate. No sooner had I drifted off to sleep, it would go off again

Our neighboring sailors polluted the cove all night long, with loud music, laughter and a little boogie. Booting around in a dingy with the outboard motor going hard out. Just being right clown fish. The least they could of done was to invite us to party!

Morning arrived, and we had visibility. We could see islands on the horizon. Unsure whether we were in the eye of the storm, or if the storm had passed us over. Never the less, It was a beautiful morning. Brett went for his morning refresh dip. I was invited in, it looked inviting. Just when I was getting up enough courage to take the jump. I caught sight of fish, and my survival instincts set in, I needed to provide lunch. I found sausage in the fridge, grabbed my newly purchased hand line, and baited up. Discovered fish don't think much of processed sausage. I did get a couple of bites though, but they must of spat it out. I was happy with the near miss

Our plans to go to Hvar Island had been changed. We needed to refuel and our food supplies were getting low. We headed back to Brac to fuel up. That was an experience getting into a tight spot beam on, with wind against us. We have come to love our fenders, they cushion us when we need them the most

Headed back to Split. Free sailing all the way. It was awesome. Boat keeled over with waves splashing over us. It was thrilling. Our top speed 10 knots. Brett sent me below deck to stow away the laptops, who's rubber feet had gone walking. OMG, someone remind me to avoid going below deck in transit. I went from the color green to purple to white. Trying to maneuver below deck, was like trying climb a rock wall made out of marble. Felt like I was in a fish bowl, on the outside looking in. It took me sometime to recover

Home sweet home... Marina Kastela. Once again we got practice, mastering the art of mooring

At the end of the day...Weathered our 1st storm
